Albums
Toto's discography consists of 13 studio albums as well as 4 live albums. There are also a few compilations. Toto has released original music and collaborated with other artists on soundtracks and films. The band has received multiple Grammy Awards.
Before the formation of Toto, band members did sessions for other musicians. David Paich, the son of drummer Marty Paich, and Jeff Porcaro (the brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro and drummer Jeff Porcaro) all played on Boz Scaggs’ 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 following the collaboration.
The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an abrupt departure from the progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for the absence of hit singles. In 1985 the group's lead singer Fergie Frederiksen left the group and the band held auditions for a new frontman. The band selected guitarist Steve Lukather, and recorded Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by re-discovering demos and tapes from the past to release a special record called Toto XX. The album was well-loved by fans and the band embarked upon an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
